Job Description

Are you an experienced Payroll and Benefits Specialist with a passion for precision, compliance, and supporting employees? We’re looking for a detail-oriented professional to join a thriving team in a dynamic, multi-location environment. With operations spanning British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, this role is central to ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time—and that benefits are administered seamlessly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage bi-weekly payroll processing for unionized hourly staff using ADP Workforce Now (or similar system).
  • Reconcile timecards and ensure compliance with employment standards, union agreements, and internal policies.
  • Verify payroll calculations including overtime, statutory holidays, vacation, and other entitlements.
  • Handle all payroll deductions—taxes, union dues, garnishments, and benefits.
  • Prepare and submit Records of Employment (ROEs), union dues reports, and pension contributions.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies, while supporting employee inquiries with clarity and professionalism.
  • Oversee benefit enrolments, updates, and terminations across health, dental, life insurance, and retirement plans.
  • Act as a point of contact for unionized staff, helping them understand coverage and eligibility.
  • Reconcile monthly benefits invoices and ensure timely payments to providers.
  • Ensure full compliance with provincial employment legislation and collective agreements across all operating provinces.
  • Assist with year-end reporting, including T4s and related payroll documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records for audits and regulatory compliance.
  • Invoice union-related hours for labour activities in line with collective agreements.

Qualifications

  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) designation preferred.
  • Post-secondary education in accounting is an asset.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Canadian payroll and benefits, ideally within unionized and multi-province settings.
  • Strong command of ADP Workforce Now or equivalent payroll software.
  • Proficiency with Excel (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis).
  • Familiarity with payroll regulations in BC, AB, and SK.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage sensitive information confidentially.
